What are the best beaches to hit up on your Fuerteventura holidays?
Ready for a beach marathon? That's the only kind of marathon we can get on board with, and thankfully, holidays to Fuerteventura are all about the sandy stuff. Give these hotspots a try for a classic (or not-so-classic) Canaries beach day:
Corralejo Viejo - think super-soft white sands, calm waters and sloping volcanoes in the background for the perfect Insta vibe
La Concha Beach - there might not be any amenities on site, but pack a rucksack, because this place is decked out with calm, blue waters shielded by reefs - like one big, natural swimming pool - perfect for a family holiday to Fuerteventura
Sotavento Beach - there are over 5km of soft sands to plonk down onto here, although the sand/sea ratio is all reliant on the regularly changing tide here, so keep an eye on the tide timetable (yep, it's a thing) so you know whether to be bringing a beach towel or a lilo!
Matas Blancas Beach - if you like peace and quiet, you'll love this beach, tucked along the east coast with plenty of space to lay down a towel, and plenty of breeze to keep windsurfers happy
Playa del Bajo de la Burra - this pebbled stretch is also known as 'popcorn beach' thanks to its rugged rhodolith-lined surface (remains of coralline algae) that resembles little pieces of popcorn, and honestly - that's enough to sell it to us
La Guirra Beach - you'll have 700m of soft sands to enjoy here, along with calm, shallow waters perfect for the kiddos - plus, it's right near Caleta de Fuste, which means you're never far from a good café or shop
Playa de Esquinzo - this one's a bit of a quieter spot for all things sea, sun and sand... an ideal pick if you're looking to kick back and relax, whether it's on the beach, or at the nearby village in one of the cosy cafes.
Playa Esmeralda Norte - a small gem of a beach with fine sands, a rugged backdrop and plenty of sun loungers on offer - just a heads up, though - this is quite a hotspot with naturists, so you might see a few people with their kit off!
El Matorral - a popular stretch along the coast of the Jandia peninsula, lined with shops, leisure centres and restaurants
Top tip: Fancy yourself a hidden gem? Cofete Beach is tucked away and more ruggedly handsome than Jason Momoa - you'll need to hire a car or hitch a taxi to get there, but we promise the wild, unspoilt sands are totally worth it.

Fuerteventura is a playground for the whole fam, with endless activities to keep the kiddos entertained and you happy they’ve forgotten about their devices for at least a few hours. Start with a trip to Oasis Wildlife Fuerteventura – a fab animal park where your little ones can get up close to giraffes, elephants, and sea lions. The daily animal shows are proper good, and there's even a petting zoo for the smaller kids.
Fancy cooling down? Hit up Acua Water Park in Corralejo. It’s got slides, lazy rivers, and splash zones that’ll have the whole family buzzing. For something a bit more chill, head to Corralejo Natural Park – it’s like a giant sandpit made by nature, and kiddos love climbing the dunes and running wild.
❤️ Things to do in Fuerteventura for Couples
Holidays to Fuerteventura are a dream for couples who want some quality time together, with a side of sunshine. Start your day by strolling hand-in-hand along Sotavento Beach. It’s calm, stunning, and perfect for a dip. Feeling adventurous? You can take a windsurfing lesson here and laugh your way through the waves.
For a boujee experience, book a sunset boat tour from Caleta de Fuste – picture this: golden hour on the water, a glass of something fizzy in hand, and dolphins splashing about in the distance. Talk about a 10/10 romantic moment! And if you’re into nature, a hike up to the Mirador Morro Velosa viewpoint is well worth it – the views will leave you both speechless.
🍷 Things to do in Fuerteventura for Foodies
Foodies, get ready to tuck into some proper delish local dishes. Fuerteventura’s got a thriving food scene, and the seafood is the real showstopper. Head to a beachside restaurant in El Cotillo for the freshest catch of the day, paired with papas arrugadas (Canary Islands' wrinkled potatoes) and mojo sauce.
For something truly local, try Majorero cheese – a goat's cheese that’s creamy, nutty, and pairs perfectly with a glass of local wine. Oh, and don’t miss a visit to a traditional guachinche – small local spots where you can sample authentic Canarian dishes without breaking the bank. If you've got a sweet tooth, make sure to grab some gofio mousse – it’s a traditional dessert that's as unique as the island itself.
💸 Things to do in Fuerteventura on a Budget
On a budget but still want a top-notch holiday? No worries, Fuerteventura’s got plenty of free or cheap activities that'll keep your wallet happy. First up, you’ve got the beaches – and they’re all free! Spend a day at Cofete Beach, one of the most stunning (and secluded) beaches in the Canary Islands. It’s rugged, raw, and untouched – perfect for a beach day without the crowds or a penny spent.
If you’re into history, the Betancuria Museum is just a few euros to enter and gives you a peek into the island’s rich past. For a budget-friendly outdoor adventure, take a hike through Corralejo Dunes – the views are unreal, and it won’t cost you a thing. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the salt flats in Las Salinas on your Fuerteventura holidays – it’s a quirky, off-the-beaten-path spot that’s free to explore and makes for some pretty cool holiday snaps.
