What are the best beaches to visit on your Lanzarote holidays?

Lanzarote is a little slice of beachy heaven, with a mix of rocky coves, cute little bays and mahoosive stretches where you can really sprawl out. Whether you're planning well ahead or browsing our last-minute holidays, we've separated the best from the rest when it comes to top beach spots to lay down a towel on this Canary Island holiday. Check 'em out:

  • Playa Blanca – literally translating to white beach, this is *the* Lanzarote beach, with light, fine sands, calm waters and gorg mountain views

  • Papagayo Beach - this sweet little cove is one of the most popular Lanzarote beaches, thanks to its quiet, sheltered location and glassy-clear waters just begging for some snorkelling action

  • Playa de los Pocillos - find this wide, sandy stretch just 15 minutes down the promenade from Puerto del Carmen, with plenty of hotels and restaurants nearby

  • Playa El Ancla - one for the off-the-beaten-track crowd, there are no sun loungers in sight at this rocky beach, but its remote location makes it a great place to kick back and admire the view, or take your snorkel for a spin

  • Playa de Famara - watersport enthusiasts, this sweeping bay is for you, with blustery winds that'll keep your sail flying high. Surf's up!

  • Playa Flamingo - a top pick for families with young kiddos, with sloping sands and sheltered, calm waters perfect for young paddlers

  • Playa Chica - a smaller beach than most, but hey, when has size ever mattered? This is a top-tier snorkelling and diving spot with crystal clear waters and a tonne of underwater creatures to feast your eyes on (okay, fine, by creatures we mean fish).

  • Playa del Reducto - a Blue Flag classic in Arrecife, with sugary-white sands and vivid blue waters perfect for families

  • Playa de Janubio - a fully volcanic beach (think deep black sands) with strong waves for all your surfing needs

  • Playa Bajo el Risco - an exotic beach with a location so exclusive, it's basically VIP. You can only zig-zag down to this cove by hiking down the Camino de Los Gracioseros path from the village of Yé (nothing to do with Kanye, don't worry) - and trust us, it's totally worth it for the blissful views you'll be greeted with on the other side

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Things to do in Lanzarote for families

One thing you can't go wrong with on a fam-friendly holiday? Dolphin-spotting! They're squeaky, they're adorable, and they're swimming about all over the shop in Lanzarote's waters. Head on a boat trip for some of the best chances to spot them around the island - you might even see some other underwater friends while you're out there!

You don't have to sail away for a fun-filled day out with the kiddos, though. There are plenty of beaches to go around, and we all know what a treat those go down. Sandcastle-building, seafront paddling, ice cream-eating. It's all a vibe. There are even water sports to keep the restless teens entertained when they're too cool for sunbathing. And if you've got kids who are more into waterslides than water sports, then AQUAPARK Costa Teguise is where it's at. It's got enough twisty-turny slides and pools to keep the whole crew entertained, no matter what you're into. Top tip - check out an all-inclusive Lanzarote hotel. With the kids entertained all day, you get more time for those poolside cocktails.

❤️ Things to do in Lanzarote for couples

If you're jetting off with your fave person for some vacay romance, then you've got loads to tuck into on your Lanzarote holidays. For a bit of adventure, the magical Cueva de los Verdes are well worth a visit, with underground lava flows and pretty caverns that make the perfect movie-like backdrop for a day trip. The whole place was formed by a volcanic eruption back in the day, so it's like a little dose of history too (save that for your next pub quiz).

Speaking of volcanoes, you might expect vineyards to be found in more green, leafy regions, but Lanzarote's nailed the volcanic vineyard game thanks to the rich soils. There are several vineyards where you can enjoy a romantic wander, and of course treat yourself to a taste of the good stuff after. Chin chin!

When it comes to elevating date night, you can head to a trusty rooftop bar like Rooftop Biosfera in Puerto Del Carmen for ocean views, an open-air cinema and delish cocktails on offer, or go one step further with a sunset catamaran tour. Nothing says romance like sailing across the water with a bottle of bubbly while the sky fades to orange. Forget the cinema, that's your movie moment right there.

🥳 Things to do in Lanzarote for groups

It's no secret that the choppy waters here are perfect for a bit of surfing, so why not get the whole gang together for a surf sesh? You can even turn it into a contest to make it more exciting (and dramatic). Whoever falls off their board first buys the first round of beers, pass it on. And if surfing's not your vibe, there are plenty of other water sports to choose from - like jet ski rides, boat trips and diving.

For a more land bound adventure, why not hop on a tour to some of the volcanic landscapes? You can even hop on an off-road buggy or quad bike while you're there for the full experience. It's like fun and history rolled into one!

And - of course - you can't go wrong with some group wining and dining. Head on a tour to some of the local vineyards, or simply hit up one of the seafront restaurants or rooftop bars for a taste of the local stuff from the bottle. Good wine and good company is always a killer combo on your holidays to Lanzarote, right?

💰 How to do Lanzarote on a budget

Newsflash: you don't have to splash the cash to have top-tier Lanzarote holidays. If history and nature are your bag, then you'll be pleased to know that you can head to the iconic Timanfaya National Park for a teeny weenie entry fee (about €20 for adults and €10 for kids, and FREE for the tots under 6!). It's the perfect way to get out and about without burning a hole in your wallet.

Of course, possibly the most obvious way to spend your time on a budget is to hit the beach! We might be biased, but you can't go wrong with some good ol' sand and sea action, and most public beaches are totally free to use! Just plop down a towel and be on your merry way.

Another way to get your taste of the local culture for cheap, are by heading to the local markets (Haria Market is around on Saturdays in - you guessed it, Haria) for some bargains - or just a nosy! And if you're not in the mood to explore on foot, there are plenty of bicycle rental places in Lanzarote, perfect for cycling your way along the promenade. We can practically feel the breeze from here.

Let’s talk Lanzarote weather, folks, because it’s seriously something to shout about. Spoiler: it’s bangin’ year-round. This Canary Island beauty really knows how to work the sun, keeping things warm and wonderful no matter when you visit.

Summer (July to September) turns up the heat to a sizzling 25-30°C, making it the ultimate sun-worshipper’s dream. Trust me, you won’t be needing that jumper – just your shades and some SPF.

Here’s where things get interesting: autumn (October to December) arrives, but Lanzarote doesn’t bother cooling off. Oh no, it keeps serving up 20-25°C, perfect for stretching out the holibobs when you thought it was time to hibernate. Time to dust off that swimwear again!

Even winter (January to March) and spring (April to June) don’t disappoint. With temps floating between 17-24°C, it’s more like a gentle, sunny embrace from Mother Nature. Whether you’re exploring those epic, lunar-like landscapes or just kicking back, it’s all smooth sailing without the risk of breaking a sweat.
