Montego Bay is the perfect introduction to Jamaica with its reggae-infused culture, spicy cuisine and tropical, white sands. The resort is the second biggest city on the island after Kingston and regularly attracts visits from the rich and famous.
If you’re a fan of white, sandy beaches, Montego Bay will not disappoint. Doctor’s Cave is located on the ‘Hip-Strip’ at the top of Gloucester Avenue, where for a small fee you’ll have access to a near-perfect place to relax. Aquasol Beach is popular with families due to its waterslides, go karts and other fun facilities.
Reggae music runs through the streets of Jamaica, particularly in Montego Bay where many bars and restaurants feature live music, ranging from hip-hop to Soca. The locals enjoy a laidback lifestyle and are known for being extremely friendly with tourists.
Montego Bay is a paradise for foodies with many culinary influences and flavours. The most famous of these is spicy jerk chicken, flavoured with a very hot marinade and usually barbecued until crisp. Jerk seasoning is used on a variety of foods including fish, shrimp and beef. Rum is the preferred drink of choice here and can be served on the rocks or as a cocktail.
The liveliest place for nightlife in Montego Bay is known as the ‘Hip-Strip’ and is loaded with great bars, clubs and restaurants. Margaritaville is a favourite with locals and tourists, hosting resident DJs and regular themed events. Montego Bay is also known for its beach parties which start in the evening and continue until the early hours. Expect fun games such as limbo, dress codes and an all round great time.

July is the hottest month in Montego Bay with an average temperature of 29°C and highs of 33°C. January is the coolest month, although temperatures still reach an average of 25°C with highs of 28°C.
Just off the coast of Montego Bay is the marine park – 9 square miles of luminous coral reefs and mangroves. Take a dip in the cool waters or book yourself on to a scuba expedition and explore the aquatic environments in detail.
Located on Dunn’s River, the waterfalls here continue to attract tourists and once you’ve visited, you’ll understand why. Tour guides are on hand to offer some useful insight into the history of the river, which has also been used in a number of Hollywood movies such as Tom Cruise’s Cocktail.
Although it’s around a 3 hour drive away, a visit to The Blue Lagoon at Port Antonio is highly recommended. Glistening turquoise waters and lush greenery await your visit, where you can take a boat ride or go rafting on the Rio Grande.
