Located to the west of the island of Jamaica, Negril escapes are a great choice for families and couples alike. Negril’s main draw for sun seekers of all kinds has to be the miles of white sandy beaches fringed with clear Caribbean waters. Scuba divers and snorkelers will be in heaven when they discover the calm lagoon at Long Bay framed by coral reefs. Add in some palm trees, some fabulous All Inclusive resorts and a bar scene that really comes alive when the hot sun goes down, and you’ve pretty much ticked all the boxes for a perfect holiday to Jamaica.
Beaches
We cannot state this enough: Negril holidays are all about the beach. Which we love, since - you may have noticed - we’re all about the beach too. The imaginatively named Seven Mile Beach is well, long. And sandy. And dreamy. You’ll find sun loungers, parasols, palm trees, cocktail bars, beachfront restaurants, watersports centres and much more dotted along this stretch of coastline. To help you find the perfect spot, Seven Mile Beach is split into several smaller coves. Long Bay and Bloody Bay Beach are two of our favourites. Booby Cay (stop laughing, what’s funny about that?) deserves an honourable mention too. This pretty islet is located just off Negril’s shores and is accessible only by boat. Due to its remote location you’ll find there are fewer people to share the sands with - bliss.
Food & Drink
Roasted breadfruit. Jerk chicken. Fresh seafood. Talk about the flavourful food here and Jamaican us crazy (sorry). Local restaurants range from laid-back barbeque joints to upscale dining experiences, but they all have one thing in common – incredible menus! Opt for the simple-sounding rice and peas for a hearty meal or stop to buy a coconut from a streetside vendor; these experiences are authentically Jamaican. Feeling thirsty? Try freshly squeezed fruit juice or a Jamaican ginger beer. Looking for something a bit stronger? They say the rum in Jamaica is the best in the world, so it would be rude not to give it a try…
Culture
Reggae and dancehall music are some of Jamaica’s most popular cultural exports. Think Bob Marley and Sean Paul – two world-famous Jamaican musicians. Island life in Negril is so laid back it’s almost lying down, but that doesn’t mean things don’t get done. It’s more about taking time to enjoy the little things and not being in so much of a rush. In the words of Bob Marley: “Don't worry about a thing, 'cos every little thing gonna be alright”. We really, really like the sound of island life.
Nightlife
Why choose one bar when you can hop between many? When we say hop, we mean get taxied between venues on your very own bus bar crawl. All you need to do is book beforehand and the party bus will pick you up and whisk you away to the hottest spots in Negril. Prefer something slightly more low key? Many beach clubs and restaurants stay open late with live music and tropical cocktails to keep you dancing until the Caribbean sun comes up.
