Historic buildings, museums and landmarks, Split has an abundance of culture within its walls. One attraction which stands out is the statue of Gregory of Nin, located outside of the Diocletian Palace. This piece of art is believed to have powers, where if you rub the statue’s big toe, it will bring you good luck.

Lvxor is a quaint bar where you can sit outdoors and appreciate the street musicians with a refreshment in hand. If you’re on a budget, Charlies Bar is known among the student travellers for being cheap and cheerful with a buzzing atmosphere. As the evening draws into night, Central Club and inBOX Bar are the recommended club venues to party through to the early hours.

Split’s local cuisine is something you can’t miss. Apart from the seafood dishes which are delightfully fresh from the coast, a must-try traditional dish is the Croatian stew. Pasticada is a beautifully marinated, roast beef stew served with pasta or gnocci, but if you are a fish lover, gregada is for you - a domestic fish stew with parsley, potatoes and succulently fresh fish. For those with a sweet tooth, you’re in for a treat. Croatians love homemade cakes and desserts, but in the region of Dalmatia, rozata is the classic sweet that is still prominent in Split today.
