El Gouna is unique among Egyptian resorts for it’s architecture and landscape, with canals running inland for miles and rows of gorgeous houses and hotels peppering the lush landscape. And all this is a few hours flight away, plus a half-hour drive from the airport! Not to mention, if you bag one of our last-minute holidays, you could be there even sooner!
Please be aware that the Islamic holy month of Ramadan will take place between 12/04/2021 and 11/05/2021. During this time, many cafes and restaurants will close during the day, restrictions on alcohol sales may be in place, and hotel dining for non-Muslim guests may take place in private rooms. Playing music, dancing, and eating in public areas may also be restricted during this time.
Holidays to El Gouna will have you lolling by the pool in your hotel or on the fabulous beaches no matter what the season. Christmas here is a sunny 20°; Celsius, and July has peaks of around 40°; Celsius, so pack the sandals and sunscreen!
El Gouna literally means 'The Lagoon', so divers will have a great time here, navigating the seven miles of beach, out to the scores of uninhabited islands offshore. Windsurfing and golf are also chief among the pleasure available on El Gouna holidays.
The museum is as varied as the neighbouring landscape, showcasing not only the ancient artefacts of Egypt, but also modern art. For the itinerant, remember: you're perfectly placed in this quiet spot to explore Luxor and Hurghada, home to some of ancient Egypt's mightiest wonders.
Although El Gouna was a planned resort, there's a real sense of community and family-friendly fun here as evidenced in the Friday Marina Festival on from March to November, with prizes, food stalls serving up local okri and marine cuisine, and belly dances. There's also a great time to be had at the street festivals and markets that spring up weekly here, especially on Mondays.
El Gouna holidays are perfect for relaxing, either with a cocktail out on the darkening beachscape, downtown, or at the Abu Tig Marina. Whether on the beach or inland, you'll be regaled at restaurants and watering-holes from pool bars to nightclubs such as at the Club Med hotel, but with a more comfortable feel than some of the larger nightclubs in major cities.
