Kassiopi lies in Corfu’s north-eastern corner across the sea from Albania. Formerly a fishing village, Kassiopi is now an attractive holiday destination for beach lovers and sun seekers alike. Most of the beaches making up this part of Corfu’s coastline are small and sheltered pebble bays. A temperate Mediterranean climate is enjoyed in Kassiopi, with temperatures reaching up to 30°C during high season. May through to October offers pleasant, warm weather, while July is the hottest and driest month. The summer months are ideal for cooling off at one of the area’s sheltered beaches.
An annual wine festival takes place every September with its epicentre in the village harbour. Delicious Greek dishes and flowing wine take centre stage, alongside traditional music and dancing, making it a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture. Connect with the locals, dance the night away and – of course – try the delectable wine. Just be sure to check the dates as this celebration only takes place once a year!
Explore the beauty both above and below sea level in Kassiopi. A stunning diving spot, the shores of Kalamionas Beach offer more than simply lazing the day away on the shingle sands. The local diving school has excursions for everyone from first-timers to experienced divers. Expect to see unspoilt coral reefs, colourful fish and even a potential octopus.
Tucked away just off the main street, the Panagia Kassopitra Church provides an insight to the history, religion and culture of the area. It was rebuilt in the 16th century by the Venetians and stands in the same spot as a temple of Zeus once did. The church was supposedly the sight of a miracle, where a blind man was healed by the Virgin Mary, and is dedicated to her as a result. Inside, you’ll find a rich collection of images and icons. Just remember to dress respectfully when visiting.
Take a break from the beaches and visit Corfu’s highest mountain. You can drive, cycle or hike up, passing remote villages on the way. From the summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the island’s lush landscape and surrounding seas. Standing 906m tall, views even reach as far as Albania and all of Corfu. There’s plenty to do from up here, including a café to relax to in and the charming Pantokrator monastery to explore.
