There's plenty to see and do when on holidays in Tavira. The 18th Century mansion is well worth a visit as is the church of Santa Maria do Castelo which is home to the tombs of Dom Paio Peres Correia and his seven faithful knights. There are also lots of watersports available down at the beach and if you fancy a stroll where better than the Moorish castle on the hill where you can also take in amazing views of the region.
Culture
Tavira is one of the most architectural beautiful areas in the Algarve and is home to a Roman bridge, whitewashed stone houses and a beautiful 18th Century mansion. Thankfully, the area remains largely unspoilt. There are also plenty of galleries and a quirky market where you can pick up some great local crafts to remind you of your holidays to Tavira.
The town also plays hosts to many festivals. September sees the Festival de Folclore de Tavira while the Handicraft Festival. The 3rd day of every month is market day and the town comes to life with colourful markets. Of course, since it's known as the town of churches, its no surprise that there are an abundance of quaint and pretty churches scattered around.
Nightlife
Even the fussiest among you will find something to do of an evening that they'll enjoy on Tavira holidays. Most of the hotels offer fantastic evening entertainment including live music and fabulous stage shows. But if the cabaret scene isn't for you there are also plenty of great bars where you can enjoy a cold glass of wine and sample some local treats from the menu. And if you really want to let your hair down then why not head to the town's club which stays open until the early hours. The bright lights of Faro aren't too far away if you want a night out on the town.
