Beaches

Less than 10km away from the centre of Cartagena sits the cove of Cala Cortina. This charming horseshoe shaped cove offers direct access to a sandy beach and the blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, just a stone’s throw away from town. Less than 30 minutes’ drive away you’ll also find the aptly named Playa de Paraiso (Paradise Beach), where you can lounge the days away besides its golden sands and turquoise waters.

Food & Drink

A staple of Murcian comfort foods, Arroz al Caldero, is made of a risotto-like rice served alongside the catch of the day with plenty of peppers, garlic, tomatoes, and olives. When life gave Murcia lemons, they made paparajote- deep-friend lemon leaves dusted with a sugar and cinnamon mixture, just bursting with flavour. The area also boasts plenty of vineyards making delicious locally produced wines easily available during your visit.

Culture

With its prized position on the Mediterranean Sea, this city of Cartagena has played host to a number of different occupants throughout its colourful history. With settlers from Carthage, the Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, and several Arab nations, the eclectic mix of these different cultures is still visible throughout the city’s landmarks and architecture today. The friendly locals of Cartagena show that taking it easy and enjoying life in the slow lane is all you need.

Nightlife

Despite its sleepy atmosphere, Cartagena is still a great place to enjoy a night on the tiles. Local hotspots include the stylish Las Casas del Rey, where you can enjoy a delicious selection of refreshments and tapas, the trendy Mazinguer nightclub, the cosy El baron café and liquor bar, and the sophisticated Al Borak.
