Beaches

Food & Drink

Valencia is home to one of the world’s favourite Spanish dishes – paella. Paella valenciana is the perfect combination of meat, rice, spices and vegetables, cooked up into the unbeatable hearty dish we all know and love. Seafood lovers will be in heaven with the range of local dishes cooked with fresh ingredients from the sea. Fideua is a delightful mix of noodles, squid, shrimp and monkfish to name a few and is a taste sensation you won’t want to miss out on. If you want to try something new, all i pebre is an eel stew with a very tasty sauce. When in the local bars, try a glass of agua di Valencia the region’s famous cocktail that is refreshing and sweet.

Culture

Historic buildings, monuments and art are a big part of Valencian culture and are easily found by just wandering the city streets. If you’re lucky enough to visit the city when one of the famous fiestas are on, you can see the true Valencian culture through the traditional costumes and music. If you want to catch the biggest fiesta of the year, Las Fallas festival takes place from the 15th to the 19th March each year.

Nightlife

Whether your idea of a great night out is a few drinks at a cool bar, a delicious meal or a night on the tiles, Valencia’s old town (Barrio del Carmen) ticks all of the boxes for a fantastic evening out. If you prefer a more elegant approach to your nights out, the marina offers stylish clubs and bars serving cocktails and hosting live DJ sets.

If you love the Spanish summer heat, visit Valencia between July and August when you’ll be greeted with average temperatures of 24°C and 25°C. June and September are slightly cooler but still a lovely warm temperature of 22°C, but if you prefer it just below the 20’s, May and October both offer an average temperature of 18°C. November to April see colder temperatures, but it’s never too chilly as the averages vary from 9°C to 14°C.

See The City of Arts and Sciences

Although the name may suggest differently, The City of Art and Sciences isn’t just for art lovers and science fans. This sci-fi-like complex is an ultra-cool attraction and will blow you away before you’ve even entered one of the buildings. See the futuristic architecture and the mirrored glass gleaming under the sun. Once you’ve taken in the view from the outside, you can visit the Oceanographic building for Europe’s largest aquarium, the Prince Felipe Museum of Sciences for a fun and educational day of exploring the different exhibits and L’Hemisfèric for the cinema and planetarium.

Visit Valencia Cathedral

Quite a contrast to The City of Art and Sciences, Valencia Cathedral is a historic landmark that’s a must-visit when in the old town. The building’s construction began in 1262 but lasted for centuries, and so you can see the changing styles throughout its architecture, as it passed through the Gothic, Renaissance and Neoclassical eras.

Explore Barrio del Carmen

Valencia’s old town, Barrio del Carmen is a unique area of the city that is brilliant for just wandering around and seeing what it has to offer. See the historic buildings contrasting with the hip cafés, bars and restaurants. It’s a great area to be in throughout the day and night too, with plenty of places to grab something tasty to eat as well as a buzzing nightlife.

Search for giant paella

Valencia is known for being the birthplace of the internationally-loved Spanish dish paella. So, when it comes to food festivals and other big events, it’s no surprise that this dish is an extremely popular pick for everyone.
