Obviously the Blue Flag is impressive, but actually just takes one glance to see that this beach is special. The gin-clear water is framed by a pebbly crescent, and set just in front of the pretty village, surrounded by the Taurus Mountains; make sure you have your camera ready, it’s gorgeous. Food & Drink
Is there anything more mouthwatering than Mediterranean flavours? We’ll wait. Fresh-off-the-boat seafood, olive oil drizzled veggies, pastries garnished with honey… we really need to stop writing these sections just before lunch! Turunc’s food scene is low-key yet lovely, with plenty of places to choose from close to the beach and towards the centre of the village. For great value local cuisine, we recommend a visit to Antik. This restaurant presents each dish thoughtfully, and has an attractive outdoor terrace where you can soak up the atmosphere and enjoy your meal. When travelling to Turkey, sampling baklava is a must – this tasty sweet treat is also an ideal gift for friends and family back home (if you don’t give in to eating it all yourself). Prefer to give the gift of alcohol? A bottle of raki – Turkey’s signature aniseed drink – is sure to go down well with the folks back home.
Culture
Turunc means ‘bitter orange’ in Turkish, and refers to the zesty fruits that used to grow around the village. These rural origins can be seen throughout the resort, from the marina to the market – this is a place that has kept its charm as it developed into a holiday destination. The small size of Turunc impacts the culture here – the village is about 1km across – meaning that you’re likely to experience a friendly welcome and a home-from-home feel to your stay.
Nightlife
Turunc is home to some great bars. Whilst not by any stretch of the imagination a clubbing hotspot, this village still knows how to party. As the sun goes down, the centre comes alive with late-night restaurants and bars. The main bar area is also fully pedestrianised and closed to cars at night, meaning you can bar hop to your heart’s content without sharing the street. We recommend taking in the view from a seafront venue and catching the sunset over the Mediterranean – it’s the ideal way to start any night out.
