We stayed here on our way through to Spain it is ideally situated near to the motorway. The hotel is very tired and dated and not of the standard would normally expect at campanile. 
Despite this shortcoming the staff were excellent and we enjoyed a very pleasant dinner and breakfast. 

Transit to Spain 

Well modernised hotel and restaurant, located close to autoroute. Minimum traffic noise. Great location when travelling south, but a good when travelling east - west as we were. Staff friendly and helpful, rooms clean and comfortable.

On average good value for money. Reception and restaurant staff, very welcoming and helpful. The beds of excellent quality. All in all overnight stay satisfactory. We always have good service and reliable quality in Campanile Lodgings.

During the last month, we have been touring the south and central France staying at various hotels, Campanile, Ibis and others.  All except this one have given us excellent service and whilst not luxury hotels have been value for money.
At every hotel except one we have been able to pay in advance through Expedia.  On arrival, all the other hotels stated that payment had already been made for our stay except for breakfast and taxes.  When we arrived at Montpelier, no such mention was made, we were served  by a man at reception.  The room was clean, comfortable, and although we requested a ground floor room due to an arthritic hip, we knew this was not automatic but this hotel was one of a few that did not accommodate us on this despite a three day stay. One of the nice things was a re-furbished bathroom with a walk in shower.  There was no, "DO NOT DISTURB" sign to put on the door.  Breakfast was plentiful and good.  However, I quote from the Montpelier Campanile website:  A free covered car park is available.  What is meant by covered?  All the cars were in the open air.

It also says:
For your business trips or family holidays, your hotel in Montpelier offers you all the services to facilitate your stay:
Facilities for guests with reduced mobility
Free WIFI in all rooms
Hairdryer and iron available at the reception
Complimentary tray with kettle, tea, coffee AND SELECTION OF CAKES!!!

We neither expected or received any cakes - but why put that on your list!!

Now I come to the worst part.
On our departure, we were served by a blond girl, we went to pay the bill for our breakfasts and tax and were told that the accommodation had not been paid in advance.  We therefore assumed that this must have been the one hotel that we had not been able to pay in advance and therefore paid in full.
In fact, our next hotel - an Ibis was the one that couldn't be paid in advance.  We therefore at that point checked all our paperwork and that it was indeed the Ibis and that Montpelier had been paid!!!  We were told both at the following Ibis and Campanile hotels that they were surprised that this had happened because it should have shown up on their computer screen and that we should contact Expedia on our return.
We have just returned home from an excellent trip in other ways.  We rang Expedia and explained about the payment at Montpelier.  They tried twice to contact the hotel and could not get anyone who spoke English and who demanded our credit card number.  When my husband offered this, Expedia said this was not how it was done and would not be needed.  They assured him that he would have his money refunded but were having great difficulty in dealing with this hotel.  They are still trying as I write.  We have had excellent service with Expedia over the years and good service from Campanile as a whole but we shall NOT RETURN TO THIS BRANCH AND DO NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.  Please do check your paperwork if you do stay here!
