My partner and I had an absolutely amazing time at Dave Red Athens. From start to finish, the staff couldn’t do enough for us. 

We arrived after an early flight and were greeted with an ice cold lobby and a smiley staff member; both were very welcome (it was 30 degrees Celsius outside)! 

We were allowed an early check in, which we were very grateful for. The room was spotless, and equipped with everything we needed.  Our room was serviced daily by the housekeeping team - who did an excellent job. 

Every morning, we had a delicious breakfast served by an incredibly friendly breakfast team. It was a great start to each day while on holiday. 

The hotel is located a few minutes way from a Metro underground station, so if you don’t fancy the 15 minute walk to the Acropolis, you have other option.

Please disregard the reviews about the area being undesirable. You’re in a capital city - what did you expect? It is no worse than the centre of Paris or Rome. While there are some people down on their luck near the hotel, they didn’t bother us once. Furthermore, even if they had, I don’t see how you can rate a hotel poorly because of this. It is not the fault of the lovely hotel team who looked after us to the best of their ability.

A perfect stay in the centre of Athens!

the hotel Dave Red Athens were we stayed the hotel itself gorgeous had no problems but where it's situated is a completely different story. I wouldn't recommend whatsoever if your blonde especially with blue eyes I had a nightmare of a holiday to the point where I was followed everywhere or stared at by a large amount men. I had men taking videos and pictures of me. And vans following me and circling me the area is very deprived where the hotel is and is quite dangerous. I was there for 4 nights and I hardly slept as I felt so unsafe. The 3rd day in we was walking back and a man on a scooter started recording me and following me to the point I started running as I felt so unsafe. And the last night about half 1 in the morning there was people stood outside our hotel room for about 2 hours and we had to barricade the door (which we did most night anyways) but it's just so intimidating for a 21 year old girl. Hopefully this gets seen by the right people as I wouldn't want any girl to go through what I went through.

Not safe at all for young blonde girls!!

This was my first solo trip and I have to say I absolutely loved it.
The hotel was quirky, I had booked an urban room. It wasn’t the lightest of rooms but it was ample for my needs. The bed was so comfortable, I slept like a log (I usually have problems sleeping). Bathroom was compact but had all I needed. The shower was powerful. I loved the amount of plugs, lights and USB ports. And the retro phone, record player and coffee machine.
The jacuzzi on the roof terrace was clean and usuable , and the roof terrace was nice with great views.
Breakfast was a good continental selection of cheese, pastries, cereal and fruit. Fruit juices, coffee, tea and water. There are a choice of milks inc oat. 
My only criticism was there wasn’t a bar.

The area wasn’t the greatest, but I never felt unsafe. The police station was directly opposite, the metro was a few minutes from the hotel too. Everything was in walking distance, and accessible.

Don’t be put off by the area, it’s cheap and it’s easy to get about. The hotel is a place to sleep and have breakfast. I spent 4 days here and probably spent most of my time out and about. I was grateful to have a nice base to rest in.

Great base for a solo traveller

Booked my 5 nights stay via Jet2. Transfer was good to and from the hotel. Drop off and pick up is a few hundred yards from the hotel. 

Greeted by Maria who was happy to check me in. She shared some information with me about the hotel, sorted the room tax and shared some info re booking frips. She was amazing!  Did not get a complementary drink or popcorn on arrival as advertised though. But there was a help yourself water station there 24/7.

Positives about the room and hotel (urban double room with balcony)
- The rooms were a  decent size for a city hotel in Europe.
- large bed.
- plenty of hooks and hangers in room.
- air con.
- small fridge.
- Blackout curtain.
- good toiletries.
- decent cold breakfast. Well stocked and fresh. Breakfast staff were incredible! 
- use of upstairs terrace was nice although basic with a few old chairs/cushions and sun loungers. 
- stani cafe / bakery  next door to the hotel is a gem! 
- all hop on hop pff buses have a stop  up at the square, a few mins walk from the hotel. Here you also find the metro. Very close.

Negatives:
- the area where it's located is rough. Streets surrounding the hotel had drug users, homeless and prostitutes. Day and night! I saw some very 'eye opening' things during my stay. Did not feel safe walking by the hotel on my own, even in early evening.  Came back via taxi every night even though the metro station was just up the lane. One taxi driver was telling me I should not stay in the area alone as it could be dangerous. 
- Very slippery bathroom floor as the shower is a wet room style. 
-  Noise from outside is loud all night, even with balcony door shut. Police cars and motorbikes leaving the police station directly opposite the room and people shouting outside  through being under the influence of drugs/alcohol. There is a security guard at the hotel 25/7, the hotel is safe! 
- no mention of how to order snacks or drinks at the hotel. No information sheet/booklet on this and no info on the info section on the Dave Brown Athens t.v screen/guide in room. I asked one night at reception about purchasing a cold drink but was directed to the corner of the street to the shop/vendor hut to buy outside.

Overall this hotel is good and certainly did not distract me from the beauties of Athens has to show! 

But as a solo female traveller, I would not recommend this hotel to any other solo travellers.
