We arrived in the afternoon, eager to check into the Pokémon-themed room we had booked. Right off the bat, the location impressed us—just a short and convenient walk from Ueno Station, making it a great base for exploring the area. The check-in process was smooth, and to our surprise, we were handed a cute Pokémon shopping bag as a welcome gift—a thoughtful touch that got everyone excited!

After grabbing our room key, we took the elevator to an outdoor staircase and balcony that led directly to our room. It added a unique touch to the experience, almost like stepping into a cozy retreat.

The room itself was a decent size, perfect for a family. As expected from an Airbnb-style setup, the amenities were fairly basic, but everything was clean and functional. The layout and décor matched the photos on the website, which was a relief. The highlight of the room? A giant Snorlax figure lounging in the center of it all! It was the ultimate centerpiece, and my kids were absolutely thrilled, hugging and playing with it non-stop. While Snorlax did have some minor stains, it was still in good shape overall and added a lot of charm to the space.

Overall, the hotel delivered a comfortable and cozy stay at a reasonable price. It’s a great choice for families looking for a relaxed, Airbnb-style experience with a fun Pokémon twist. Highly recommended for those traveling with kids or anyone who loves Pokémon!

Cozy, Pokemon Hotel Experience

We stayed for 4 nights and were impressed with the property. Our One-Bedroom Family Apartment was comfortable, clean, quite roomy (in Japan standards) and quiet. We loved how the bunk beds were tucked into a corner, giving the kids their privacy and us parents too. Washroom was surprisingly also quite roomy. Kitchenette was handy although we only used it for coffee and tea, and takeaway sweet snacks. Housekeeping came by every day to tidy up the room, empty the trash and replace towels. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Free instant coffee and green tea available 24/7 from the lobby. Self-serve coin laundry facility was a huge plus for us as we were travelling with only carry-on luggage. Hotel is within walking distance from a 7-Eleven, Family Mart and the Ueno train station. We felt super safe in this neighbourhood.

Great for Families!

My daughter’s boss recommended this place - a true gem! Roomy, sparklingly clean, and perfectly appointed with chic, contemporary Japanese style, a nice kitchen area for meals and board games, and 4 comfy beds so that we could all stay together. The front desk staff was cheerful and welcoming, and went out of their way to satisfy our many requests, including a list of terrific restaurant recommendations. This hotel is also well located too—a quick walk to the Ueno Train Station giving easy access to all of Tokyo.  I wish I could find the Mimaru East in every city I visit!!

A perfect gem

The only downside for me was that although it was not too far from/to the nearest exit of Ueno station, it required a bit more to reach JR or metro platforms. Furthermore, there were no interesting shops on the way, so it was kind of a little boring while walking and waiting for some time at traffic light to cross a main road in front of the hotel.

Other than that, I was very pleased with its facilities. The room was big and functional. Microwave, stove, fridge and cooking equipment were available. Amenities were provided on the first floor, including umbrellas in case of rain. There was only one elevator, but reasonable with the overall size of the hotel.

Note that the walkway outside elevator to all rooms and stairs could be slippery when raining.

There were tons of things to do around here on the south side and west side of Ueno station. Shops, markets, parks, convenience stores were scattered around. A few train stops could take you to many interesting places. Ueno station itself was one of major railway stations, so here was the place to stay if you plan to travel around Tokyo and vicinities by train/Shinkansen.
