Mitsui Garden Hotel Otemachi

My partner and I stopped here for three nights and it was a decent hotel in a decent location. 

The check in was easy, the rooms were small however this is not unusual for rooms in Tokyo. Internet worked well within the hotel. 

We were on the eleventh floor and had a good view. The rooms were soundproofed well and we didn’t hear any traffic or noise from other guests. 

It served a purpose, it’s more in the business side of Tokyo but had easy access to the Tokyo Train Station and surrounding areas. 

We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel and for evening meals the hotel is in close proximately to Tokyo Train Station which has the Ramen Street located within. There is also a 7/11 close by to the hotel. 

I would stop here again but there are other areas of Tokyo I would rather stop at when visiting the City in the future.

The hardware of the hotel is good. The location is great for business travelers but not for tourists as it’s located in the business district of Tokyo. It’s a dead town on weekends and after office hours. 

Let’s now talk about the software. There’s no human touch or hospitality for this hotel. I arrived early at the hotel, I am willing to pay for early check in even at the rate of one night prior. But the Front Desk told me the room type that I wanted is only available at 12 noon even if I were to pay for early check in. I arrived at 8am, tired and was on a flight for 12 hours. I asked if they can offer me any options, he became unscrupulous and told me he has a room grade higher than what I booked for and that if I will like to take the room, I will not only have to pay for early check in but also to top up for the nights for the rest of my stay! I was so tired and incoherent, I agreed to it as rest and sleep was my priority. I went and informed the front desk later that day, no one had gotten back to me on this. The business model is not very Japanese style. 

Breakfast, I understand breakfast service ends at 9:30am, I skipped the second day breakfast as I was late. On day 3, I was down at 9:38am, the buffet line was still open with plenty of good left. I discovered that my breakfast tickets were missing (yes, Japan is so advance that they still use paper tickets for breakfast and this hotel is supposed to support sustainability and green initiatives). I asked the front desk for help, it took the receptionist some time to issue me with the tickets. I asked if I can just grab something real quick before he can issue me with the ticket, he told me breakfast ends at 9:30am and he had the audacity to show me the piece of paper that indicate that while there were still food left at the buffet line and people were still eating in the restaurant. Hence, the experience so far at this hotel is bad, really bad! Front Desk hospitality is zero to non. Management, is there even a management team? Will I recommend this hotel? Definitely no no. I will rather pay a bit more to get the hospitality and flexibility of a better chain hotel. They say to support local business and eventually you get bitten and ripped off while trying to do that. Not impressed!

Non existence Hospitality Hotel.

I stayed at the Mitsui Garden Otemachi for 5 nights for work. The location was super convenient for meetings in Otemachi Financial District but also very convenient for touring the city. Otemachi station is 1/2 block away, Kanda Station is a 6-min walk and Tokyo Station is a 10-min walk, I used all 3 stations multiple times. I stayed in a Moderate Double which was very typical of a Tokyo business-quality hotel: small, meticulous room with double bed pushed up against one wall, carpeted, small bathroom. The mattress was on the very firm side which again is typical. My room overlooked a major road and yet was completely soundproof. 

The front desk staff were very helpful with restaurant reservations, directions, ordering taxis, etc. All staff spoke at least a little English. I also liked that reception is on the ground level (versus being mid-way up a high rise building). 

This hotel was very affordable particularly when compared to hotels in neighbouring Marunouchi which is less than 10 mins walk away. I would stay here again.
