Excellent base to explore but also to relax personalised experience

Thaala Bentota provides a peaceful retreat with excellent security and privacy. The resort is well-maintained, and the rooms are spacious, offering great views of the beach. The staff ensures a safe and comfortable environment, with attentive service throughout the stay. With its secluded location, visitors can relax and enjoy the tranquility without worries. The food is flavorful.

Shockingly poor and awful customer service. I booked through the Thaala Bentota online website and was charged the full amount on my credit card. Later I am sent a generic email saying their system had a glitch and the reservation is not valid (absolutely no mention of a contact person, just sounds like a AI robot dispatched the email, absolutely no mention of how they will rectify or refund the amount that was charged due to a BROWNS HOTELS error, not the customer's mistake!!). I also get random whatsapp messages from a number where they wont answer the phone or my queries about how will they process my refund, hours later i get another generic unhelpful reply "someone will call you tomorrow". This is the most appalling customer service I have ever received from a so called reputed chain of hotels - any other hotel - cinnammon, anantara etc. would have the basic courtesy to call their customers and they always go out of their way to help their customers particularly if there has been an error on their part FOR WHICH THE CUSTOMER HAS BEEN UNFAIRLY CHARGED. I then attempted to call reservations at thaala bentota I spoke to a lady named Surangi who was not helpful at all and said she would speak to her manager and get back to me about the refund (she did not get back to me) and stammered some rubbish about how it will take weeks to process a refund!!!! Does Browns Hotels not have competent finance people capable of reversing a credit card charge!?!? In what ancient era are they operating ? I also took time out of my work day to reply to their generic email asking them to write to me about processing the refund and explaining the horrible customer experience I have had thus far- absolutely no response, apparently the staff is even incapable of sending a basic "we're sorry" email. ABSOLUTELY AVOID DEALING WITH THIS HOTEL AND THEIR INCOMPETENT UNHELPFUL STAFF. I wonder if Browns Hotels CEO  Eksath Wijeratne has any idea how woefully inadequate the customer service is.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NO REFUND

We had a wonderful 10 days staying at Thaala Bentota which was made extra special due to the great staff.  There is an excellent positive culture created by the leadership.  When we had something needed sorting, Roche was on the case and it was resolved immediately.  Everyone is greeted with a warm smile, whether it is the guys in green tending the wonderful gardens and keeping everything so tidy, those in white ensuring the lovely pools are cleaned daily, towels provided etc, those at reception.....

I'd like to say a special thanks to Lasantha and the guys cleaning our room and those in the restaurant including Kalindu, Mendis and Keerthi.  You are incredible.  Photos attached.  We are already missing those amazing Sri Lankan curries and the tasty egg hoppers.
