This is a nice property, immaculately kept, and the food was always good.  The standout excellence are the staff, who are all absolutely superb, combining professionalism, competence and friendliness.  We also received an unexpected and beautiful room upgrade on arrival, which was much appreciated. So why only three stars when many people give five?  We opted to upgrade to “all inclusive”; as even a small bottle of water was $6 ands a cocktail $20 and only buffet dining is included as standard, so this seemed to make sense.  Even though we were on their “premium all inclusive” (with negligible differences from the standard) package it was penny-pinching and filled with mind-numbing exclusions and rules.  Shortened menus, almost all drinks excluded (local spirits only allowed) and time restrictions meant the package was anything but all inclusive.  Couple that with the fact that wines available were the ones normally seen on discount in the local convenience store and not what you expect from Anantara, left a very bad impression.  In recent years we have generally used all-inclusive packages and never experienced this level of meanness.  When we complained they simply reassured us that these were the rules and that now we could include Gordons gin. Interestingly, across a six day stay, we never saw any senior management or saw any management interaction with other guests, marking the Anantara out from all other hotels at which we have stayed. A final observation – the hotel has a very “international” feel, as though one has left Sri Lanka behind at the gates, something that can be considered positive or negative depending on what one is looking for.

Not expected from an Anantara

Absolutely fantastic Hotel
Beautiful welcome ceremony on arrival. Stayed in an amazing pool villa with beach view. Very large spacious and clean. Our villa host Yohan was superb he contacted us by WhatsApp  every morning to ensure everything was satisfactory and to see if we needed to make reservations for the restaurants etc.
The staff at the resort were wonderful and friendly always greeting you with a smile.
The Verala Asian restaurant and bar were in shape of coconut shells,  food was absolutely delicious and staff very professional and friendly.
Happy Hour at the Verala bar was a must every day between 5 and 6pm. Cocktails were amazing.
The breakfast buffet was amazing with a fantastic choice of food and drinks. Again the staff were always very attentive and professional and always had a smile on their face.
The beach was lovely and clean but the sea was very rough so you were unable to swim. The lifeguards were always on hand to set up your sunbed with towels.
I must give a special mention to Yohan, Kasun and Hemel who always made you feel special, nothing was too much for them
The Anantara Group Of hotels are 1st class.

A little slice of Paradise

🏨 The hotel didn’t just meet our expectations, but definitely exceeded them!

For Sri Lanka, this hotel is a rare jewel, in which the level of comfort, safety, cleanliness, well-groomed, and ambiance deserve solid five *****!

Remoteness from all sights and airport is compensated by relaxing, quiet atmosphere, unobtrusive but attentive service, hospitality and professionalism of the staff.

Each guest is greeted with drumming and a short song 🪘 🎶)

Guests are assigned a concierge/butler with whom they communicate via WhatsApp.
Our caring assistant Kavindi even speaks Russian.

🌿 The territory of the hotel is luxurious, huge, clean, well-groomed, green with a variety of plants, lots of shady places, literally a jungle! We met a lot of wildlife for us: from peacocks, chipmunks, to monkeys, rabbits, iguanas, lizards and different birds. All the fauna is free-range (not a petting zoo), but at the same time they don't bother you at all with their smell or behavior! Only please the eye)

🌊 The ocean raged for most of our stay, the waves and currents at the hotel (and on the neighboring) beaches are strong and treacherous. The elements and the power of the ocean are hypnotising.

We lay on the beach, enjoyed the noise and power of the ocean, and went to cool off in the pool 🏊‍♀️. 
Pools are made by cascade, not overcrowded, the water is good. 
Pools fully compensated for the inaccessibility of swimming in the ocean.

The guys from the beach guard are very attentive and prompt. In emergency cases, they helped to get out of the waves, or reminded not swim too far.

⛳️ Competent infrastructure and an abundance of green spaces allow you to feel privacy both on the beach and during walks. Another plus is the absence of background music on the beach and at the pools areas, sometimes hotels sin with this. 

The territory is impressive, competent landscape allows you to walk any kilometers on paths and lawns.

During breakfasts and dinners, music with a perfect playlist of classics, instrumental soundtracks, and lounge plays on background. Apparently a high-quality stereo system has been installed, as the sound is superb.

🏋🏻‍♀️ Jym is open 24 hrs, gorgeous, very quality equipped (!), with panoramic windows, and enough air inside.
There is also lighted tennis court, sports courts, darts, billiards, bikes etc.

The hotel is so stunning that I genuinely didn't want to waste a day traveling anywhere else as we are here for a short period of time. 

🛏️ 🛋️The room is magnificent, it seems like you couldn't have come up with a better one! 
It completely falls under the points of our request, and even more:
- the renovation is fresh, 
- the interior details are pleasing to the eye,
- the room configuration is laid out to the smallest detail: 
- good bed linen 
- coffee machine and refillable capsule stock, 
- unlimited water (which is not found in all hotels, even AI)
- iron, kettle, hair dryer, from the standard list
- a flashlight for evening walks, umbrellas, insect repellents, slippers and flip-flops 🩴 
- the room is very spacious, the lighting options are well thought out
- mirrors 🪞 👌🏽
- a spacious balcony with a daybed/coach, wicker chairs/table, and there is still room for a yoga mat if you are too lazy to go to the gym.
It's a pleasure to spend time on the balcony, where you can also sunbathe.

- Panoramic ocean view 😍!

- Powerful adjustable air conditioning, which is important in swelteringly hot climates)

🧹 Cleanliness is maintained with dignity, if they "forget" to sweep the floor, you can gently remind, personnel will not refuse an fix everything. 😉
Requests, for example, to replenish the water / body lotion supply are responded to with lightning speed.

- 🛁 The bathroom is super. They are well divided, spacious, and bright. 
- High-quality cosmetics, even including after-sun lotion and bath salts.

By the way, for bath lovers there is a gorgeous bathtub, besides a shower. 
- The bathroom is separated from the room by a glass wall, which, if desired, is closed with electric shutters 👌🏽

🏺 Indonesian style of interior is well kept, there are a lot of Instagram locations throughout the hotel)

In the library there are computers 🖥️ - iMac!

🍱 I am absolutely delighted with the breakfasts/dinners!

The variety of greens 🥬 , vegetables 🥗 , fruits 🍉 , and seafood 🦞 🦐 🐙 🐟 here is simply magnificent!
The cuisine is diverse with a focus on different regions on different days.
Everything is sooo delicious, fresh, and it would be hard to leave the hotel without weight gain, apparently)
We are very sophisticated, fastidious visitors - but can't find fault with the menu, and the quality is amazing!
At the same time, I’ve heard laudatory reviews and enthusiastic comments from other guests from different countries throughout my whole stay about the menu, the variety of choices and the food quality! And everyone emphasized their own: meat, desserts, pastries and bread, and I haven't seen a tastier and more successful serving of fresh seafood anywhere else like here for a long time! 🔥 
For the chefs and the entire team responsible for catering - bravo! 🧑🏿‍🍳 👨🏼‍🍳 👏🏼 

♻️ The policy of conscious consumption and moderation catches the eye)
There is no plastic, all water is in the glass bottles.
The glasses on the beach are reusable.
There are no kilometer-long racks with food, while everything is replenished/refilled promptly as needed.

It should be noted that public places are kept in perfect order and clean with a full range of high quality cosmetics (including sanitizers, after-sun creams, lotions, baskets with baby diapers)

We were happy to spend our vacation in Anantara Peace Haven, and recharged our batteries 🔋 with positive impressions until the next trip!

I’d glad to visit hotels of Anantara chain in other countries with interest and can confidently recommend the one in Tangalle! 👍🏽
